Cooperative Senior game Programmer
Are you a technically strong programmer with a great overview wanting to contribute to the general direction of the project, tackle gameplay challenges and work in a flat hierarchy with very skilled colleagues - then this is your chance!
We are searching for an experienced, Senior Game Programmer for our game Deep Rock Galactic. You will join a small team of dedicated Programmers , artists, and designers, and your job will consist of a wide range of tasks depending on current need and your skillset. The game features procedural content generation, online co-op and lots of interlocking game systems.
Your Mission
Being more of a generalist we will rely on your technical expertise and experience to take ownership of the technical quality of the project code base. The Game and The Team:
Ghost Ship Games (GSG) is a smaller studio with a large player base, so expect to work on a lot of different parts of the game and refine it based on player feedback. Your work has an impact directly in the game! New updates are frequently released, so expect it to be months and not years before players get to experience your work
Your work will be played by millions of players all around the world. DRG is one of the top 100 most played games on Steam with one of the nicest and most active communities, with whom we have great interaction
We are a small team with a very flat structure that encourages and relies on everyone to take ownership of what they are working on. When given a new task, there is a vision given, but never a detailed plan of what the end result will be. Instead we rely on everybody’s individual creativity and input to produce the most fun gameplay through playing and iterating the feature.
Is This You?
We are looking for an experienced and technically adept developer, able to get into new systems easily, maintain a comprehensive overview of the tasks in your care, and collaborate alongside highly qualified colleagues.
This means that you:
- Have strong C++ skills and probably over 5 years of experience
- Have a relevant educational background
- Have shipped a PC or console game - perhaps even supported a live game
- We expect that:
- You are curious, respectful and constructive and you enjoy having a general overview of progress
- You thrive in a highly collaborative environment
- You are an active contributor to the GSG crew while being a great colleague with a positive influence
What we offer
As we are creating games we, ourselves, like to play, we are also creating a workspace we like to work in. Ghost Ship Games has enjoyed quite a bit of success and we’ve all been a part of this.
- This is why we, on top of an industry-competitive salary, have created a great bonus scheme.
- In addition, we have a solid pension scheme plus health- and dental insurance
- We offer paid parental leave, six weeks paid vacation and extra days off e.g. when your kids are sick.
- We hire great talent, but first and foremost great people, with full lives and we don't expect you to do a bunch of overtime - so we manage our deadlines instead!
- We also want you to have flexibility in your work life so we have flexible hours and the possibility to work from home - mainly on Fridays.
- If you are prone to seasickness - don’t worry we do not have offices on a ship 😀 But we are currently looking for bigger abodes (still centrally located in Copenhagen, close to public transport) as we are growing!

Who are we?
Ghost Ship Games is a Danish game development studio, founded in the spring of 2016 by a group of veteran game developers. In less than three years, we turned Ghost Ship Games into a solid and profitable game studio able to compete with other mid-size game studios on Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox.
We believe our relatively agile team size of 32 souls makes us work smart instead of hard. Our main focus is on gameplay and fun and our ambition is to develop games with us as the target audience. If we as gamers like it – so will others!
At Ghost Ship Games, we foster openness through regular discussions of ideas. We wish to hear people’s input and discuss options and alternatives. This includes collaborating with the game community, and we strive for open development. It correlates with our ways of communication: we have daily stand up meetings before lunch, and we also offer monthly 1-to-1 meetings with your lead to ensure there is ample opportunity for you to discuss your work and other important matters.
Our motto is simple: Co-op First. We will take Co-op to the next level, and make great games, focused on the core gamer.
For the big studios, co-op is a bullet point. For us, it is the whole point.
We are not actively hiring at the moment.
We will do so in the future, and you will be able to find open positions here when we do.
